WAI Presents: Mythos Unbound

We are thrilled to announce our new line of merchandise inspired by Greek mythology, designed by artist Summer Peterson. Art has been an intrinsic part of WAI since its conception; from our logo, inspired by Dali's Woman with a Head of Roses, to our interviews with artists whose work focuses violence against women. Sexual violence and art have a long, intertwined past. To understand the glorification of rape in history, it is crucial to view its influence on art throughout the millennia. Brutal scenes depicting the suffering of women are contrastingly painted in beautiful renaissance style, almost always by men.

With our first merchandise launch, we knew we wanted more than a simple logo on a t-shirt. We wanted designs that formed an assemblage true to our mission, and art that acted as a counterpoise to its inspirations. This collection centers on themes of justice, fury, and power. Each design connects to a unique aspect of WAI's mission, reclaiming historical motifs to reject the traditional glorification of sexual violence.
